Abstract

Psychologists have been trying for years to find out what qualities result in leadership. Although the number of leaders seems small, their influence is always large because of their position in their own society. Leadership seems to consist of a cluster of traits, a few inborn, but most of them acquired, or at least developed by contact with the environment. It is also a permanent type of behavior, and the leaders in elementary school usually become leaders in high school and in time become leaders in college (M. Hodges, 1953).
