Abstract

This report examines the research of media's influence on learning and, more specifically, reviews the history and research of instructional television. It is hoped that the reader will gain insight into the potential influence of media, and the worth of instructional television for the future. The intent of this review is threefold; 1) to discuss the influence of media on learning, 2) to identify significant trends and/or conclusions which have emerged in ITV since it's inception in the early 1930s; and 3) to allay concerns about the effectiveness of television as a mode of delivering instruction.
