Abstract

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is a rapidly growing public health concern. The purpose of this original 1988 study at the University of Northern Iowa was to determine by questionnaire if there was a difference in attitudes of thirteen Dental Assistant, thirteen Medical Assistant, and one hundred nineteen Nursing students at a selected midwestern Community College toward Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Questionnaire scores were analyzed using analysis of variance at the .05 level. The groups differed on six of the fifty four items on the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome Attitude questionnaire. Results suggest minimal differences among the groups. Identification of attitudes is needed to address the learning requirements of Health Occupation students (Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, and Nursing) at this specific Community College.
