Abstract
The profession of cartography has changed considerably over the past several decades. These changes should be reflected in teaching practise at academic institutions. Focusing on undergraduate academic cartography in the United States and Canada, this paper examines several major components of the undergraduate curriculum. Instructors and curriculum variables are analyzed, including graduate training of instructors in cartography, enrolment and course offerings at academic institutions, textbook use, and the use of computers in introductory cartography courses.
