Abstract
A study on commercially available bio-based and conventional greases that are fully formulated and contain additives was carried out. Biobased Grease 3, Biobased Al Complex, was either borderline compatible or incompatible with mineral oil-based greases. Alternatively, the other two bio-based greases, both thickened by lithium hydroxide, were either compatible or borderline compatible with mineral oil-based greases. The bio-based lithium complex greases were compatible with the polyurea-thickened mineral oil-based grease, while only the GC-LB bio-based lithium complex grease was compatible with the mineral oil-based lithium complex grease. The LB bio-based lithium complex grease was only borderline compatible with the mineral oil-based lithium complex grease due to the penetration value of that mixture.
