Abstract
At 6:00 p.m. on December 1, 2017, soprano Kelly Noltner and pianist James Jenkins presented a recital of song literature in Davis Hall at the University of Northern Iowa, in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Master of Voice Performance degree. Selections included English songs by Joseph Haydn, Lieder by Franz Schubert, mélodie by Reynaldo Hahn, and songs by Charles Griffes. This document serves as a guide through the recital program, exploring poetic settings and meaning, harmonic and melodic structures, musical interpretation, and historical context.
