Abstract
This recital was prepared and presented in partial fulfillment of the degree requirements for the Master of Music in Saxophone Performance at the University of Northern Iowa. The program for this recital consisted of works composed for the alto saxophone by Eugene Bozza, Ned Rorem, Karel Husa, and Ida Gotkovsky. The purpose of this abstract is to examine each composer's work with regard to compositional structure, musical style, performance practice, and compositional treatment of the instrument. Biographical and historical information pertaining to the composers and their works will also be presented in order to further understand the composer's intentions.
