Abstract

Since World War II, there has been a new surge of interest on the part of American citizens concerning religion in education in the public schools. The numerous books published on this subject; the frequency with which articles concerning the pros and cons appeared in newspapers and periodicals; the extensive utilization of panel and group discussions on the subject among the clergy, educators, and parents; and the recent court rulings will all substantiate this statement. It is necessary that research be conducted in order to discover present practices and to lessen the great confusion that now exists. With this information, possible solutions to the problem may be suggested.
