Abstract
This study, which combines aspects of both descriptive and correlational research, has four purposes. The purposes were to 1) discover which of a selected group of environmental concepts are being regularly included in the Iowa Vocational Home Economics curriculum, 2) describe possible differences in personal and classroom environmental attitudes and behavior and 3) describe possible differences between home economics teachers who include environmental concepts in their curricula and those who do not. From the fourth purpose four null hypotheses were developed concerning the relationship between number of concepts included in the curricula and 1) personal variables , 2) self-rating on a hierarchy of environmental behaviors, 3) personal attitudes, and 4) personal behavior. A four-part survey was developed and mailed to 150 randomly selected vocational home economics teachers. The 116 informants responded to a series of professional and personal background questions and indicated which of 31 environmental concepts they taught during the 1975-1976 school year. Parallel statements of classroom and private environmental behavior were based on both cognitive and affective domains of Bloom and Krathwohl's taxonomies of educational objectives. Teachers were asked to indicate how they matched behavioral statements on a scale ranging from most to least like me. Environmental attitudes and specific personal behaviors were also measured.
