Abstract

Brian Hughes presented a Graduate Recital in Conducting on April 22, 1993 at 8:00 p.m. in Russell Hall Auditorium in partial fulfillment of the Master of Music Degree. Assisting on the recital were the University of Northern Iowa Chamber Winds and Janeen Jenson, soprano, Mary Ann Fountain, mezzo-soprano, Sean Murphy, tenor, and Thomas Alpers, baritone. The program included two works by Georg Druschetzky: Partita in B-flat ("Echo"), and Quartetto, "Sehnsucht von Schiller," as well as The Drawing Room Polka by Louis Jullien. All of the performing editions, including the conductor's scores, were prepared from manuscript parts by Mr. Hughes. This abstract will briefly discuss the background of each work as well as offer a cursory description of their pertinent musical elements.
