Abstract

The University of Northern Iowa Concert Chorale presented a spring concert on Wednesday, April 30, 1997 in the School of Music Russell Hall at 8:00 p.m. The concert repertoire was chosen, rehearsed and conducted by Theodore J. Hesse in partial fulfillment of the Master of Music degree requirements in Choral Conducting. The Concert Chorale presented Sechs Ouartette, Op. 112 by Johannes Brahms and Missa Brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo by Franz Joseph Haydn, assisted by a select ensemble of instrumentalists. The Concert Chorale is a chorus of fifty singers, including graduate, upper-level undergraduate, and non-music majors. One-hour rehearsals for the repertoire began in March and were held five days a week. The rehearsal process consisted of analysis, discussion of style and performance practice, diction and the many other inherent aspects of a choral rehearsal. This process was employed through tutti and sectional rehearsals.
