Abstract

The intent of this recital was to give the listener an opportunity to hear music that otherwise may not be available due to lack of performance or recordings. All of the compositions were written in the twentieth century and include Stan Friedman's Solus (1975), Chamber Music VII: Ceremonies for Trumpet and Piano (1984) by Robert Suderburg, the Caprice (1972) of Joseph Turrin, Five Poems of Emily Dickinson for Trumpet and Narrator (1978) by Jay Rizzetto, and three pieces by Dimitri Shostakovich-Romance from Ballet Suite no. 2 (1951) and two of his Three Fantastic Dances (1922). Because these works were composed in the twentieth century, information is limited and only a few recordings are available. All the composers featured on this recital are American except Shostakovich, who is a Soviet composer.
