Abstract

I have chosen to analyze several characteristics of Don Quijote, and his squire, Sancho Panza. I have observed that Don Quijote is on the side of the underdog, and tries to do justice in the world from personal need. Sancho tries to reason with him, and constantly reminds him of reality. But Don Quijote lives in his make-believe world of a past age of chivalry, and one can say that throughout the episodes he is out of place, and time until he recovers from his illness in the second part of the novel. He has created the illness himself by indulging in chivalry books of the past, until he becomes what he reads: a white knight in seventeenth-century Spain.
