Abstract
This is a novella that captures the feelings and moods of Jason Ebley, an alienated youth growing up in the Midwest What sets this work apart from other "coming-of-age" stories is that it is told from the perspective of a shadow figure who appears when the main character nearly drowns at a young age. This unique narrator gives insights into the conflicts Jason faces as he attempts to decide what his future holds. A few examples of what his struggles include: romantic relationships, friendships, family, abuse, suicide and much more.
