Abstract

It was the purpose of this study to outline a step by step method of evaluation for an elementary music program in which the music instruction is done by the classroom teacher under the direction of a music supervisor. This proposed method of evaluation was based on the beliefs that (1) the assessment of concurrence on all aspects of the music program between music staff, classroom teachers, principals, administrators, and parents, and the measurement of the reaction to and interest in music on the part of the students would comprise the scope of useful evaluation; and (2) for an evaluation to give a true indication of the status of a music program it must (a) study the total music program, (b) collect data from all segments of the population, and (c) actively involve all segments of the population in all phases of the evaluation process.
