Abstract
This thesis is concerned with the development of eight, cone 6 (2232° F) ceramic glazes to be used in an electric kiln. These glazes were developed from a scientific approach in which the basic formula was calculated on paper. From these base formulas a trial and error approach was taken in which the basic chemicals were then adjusted until the desired esthetic quality and necessary firing dependability were achieved. The eight glazes presented in the thesis provide a wide range of characteristics which make them versatile for use by the craftsman, and also provide base glazes for further investigation by the ceramist.
