Abstract

"Goblin Chronicles: The Katscratchers Tribe" is an urban fantasy genre story, narrating the adventures of a tribe of goblins who have named themselves the Katscratchers. The story is set in contemporary Minnesota, in the Twin Cities region of St. Paul and Minneapolis. These creatures of legend have moved into the city from the wilderness of Wisconsin in hopes of finding a new land in which they can survive. The story revolves around the humor and heartaches the goblins face in day-to-day living as they seek to coexist in secret with humans. At the story's start, the chronicler, Quill, introduces himself, and gives the reader background on who goblins are. Each chapter reveals more about the goblins and their survival in human lands. Humor, ingenuity, and social bonds make life bearable for the tribe, whose favorite treats are Twinkie snack cakes. The goblins even make allies with other monsters they encounter, all for the purpose of survival. This thesis is intended as an introduction to a longer novel.
