Description
Addresses delivered at the inauguration of the Iowa State Normal School ("an Institution established by the State of Iowa, for the Professional Education of Teachers in all the Departments of Science of Education and Art of Teaching, now thoroughly organized") on September 14, 1876, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The first address, Normal Schools – Their Origin and Office, was given by James C. Gilchrist, principal of the Iowa State Normal School. The second address was a response given by Maj. W. C. Bryant on behalf of the citizens of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
