Abstract
Various research studies that compared data on personality characteristics (specifically neuroticism), and political orientation were reviewed. The studies all used the Big Five Personality Inventory to measure neuroticism and included: a sample from the US which controlled for socioeconomic status, and a study from Great Britain and their Republican/Democrat equivalencies. The results were consistent in that lower levels of Neuroticism were correlated with more Republican ideology. Using an existing data set, I investigated if college students from the University of Northern Iowa had a similar relationship.
