Project Summary
The Study Abroad Center (SAC) at the University of Northern Iowa will showcase the various service learning and community engagement projects that our students have participated on across the world as well as how the SAC supports these projects through scholarship funding. Projects range from working with orphaned children in South Africa, picking up trash along the Inca Trails in Peru, to exploring democratic and sustainable design of textiles and materials in Sweden. The SAC offers the Global Involvement Scholarship which encourages the broadest possible spectrum of UNI students to engage with diverse cultures in nontraditional locations. This scholarship has two objectives - to help promote student study in programs located in the developing world or programs intended to foster community service and local engagement and also to encourage underrepresented student populations to study abroad.
