Abstract
Since the invention of printing, technology has offered great promise for increasing access and enhancing the effectiveness of education while reducing, or holding the line on, educational costs (Dressel and Marcus, 1982). What is most remarkable, however, is that all of the significant changes in educational technology (beyond print materials) have occurred during the 20th century.
