Abstract
Curtailing the inordinate influence which the Nigerian Armed Forces exert on Nigeria is not only one of the greatest challenges facing the republic, but also one that is difficult to achieve. This essay addresses the role of the Nigerian military as a major obstacle to democratization in Nigeria, and suggests strategies for military disengagement.
