Abstract
Fall 2009 finds Kaori Yamada in her third semester of graduate study in the Department of Communication Studies and continuing her coursework for a Graduate Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies. She comes to UNI after completing her undergraduate degree in English at Dokkyo University in Soka, Japan. The selection of Ms. Yamada’s essay for presentation at the Spring 2009 CHFA Graduate Research Symposium is particularly impressive because it was written during her very first semester at UNI for the Gender Issues in Communication class. The essay also has been competitively selected for presentation at the 2009 National Communication Association convention to be held in Chicago this November
