Description

Alt text: An anti-suffrage postcard with a gold and red border, labeled "Suffragette series number 9" near the top. It features a full-length illustration of an elegantly dressed woman in a green dress and matching wide-brimmed hat with yellow roses. She wears a sash labeled "District Leaderess." She is smoking a cigarette and holding a purse. A red fire hydrant is partially visible to the left. To the right, a tall wooden utility pole holds numerous handwritten campaign signs with satirical endorsements for candidates, including "Vote for Bill Sykes for Keeper of the Zoo," "Don't vote for Dr. McMoney for Treasurer vote for his wife, she has been his treasure for 40 yrs," "Vote for Susie Peach for Alderwoman 5th Ward," "Vote for Miss Spinster Justice Childrens' Court," "Before voting see Ann Howolde Boodle-Holder of the Committee for the Emancipation of the Weaker Sex from the Other Sex," and "Jane Dikker for Governess of the Blue-Grass-Widow State. Ladies prove that you are men." The text beneath the image reads, "Queen of the poll." The lower border reads "Copyrighted 1909 by Dunston-Weiler Lithograph Company." The lower portion also includes some handwriting in pencil. A band below the postcard has the text "Palczewski Suffrage Postcard Archive."
