Abstract
The species is known from two localities in east-central Iowa. This is the first documented record of A. laterale in Iowa and verifies an earlier unauthenticated report. Identification of the Iowa material was based on standard morphological analysis, erythrocyte size and electrophoretic separation of blood plasma proteins. Populations probably occur sporadically throughout forested lowland areas in the eastern quarter of the state. Eastern Iowa may have served as a refugium for the species during the Wisconsin glacial period.
