Abstract
In previous work Raiford and Miller1 showed that when a phenol or cresol containing bromine in both ortho and para positions is treated with nitrous acid, a halogen atom may be replaced by the nitro radical and isomeric mononitro compounds may be formed. Chlorine cannot be replaced in this way.
