Abstract

The following simple calculation is by no means intended to be an exhaustive investigation of the volume elasticity of the earth. Granting the postulates laid down, it is a definite problem, and the solution seems to be definite and exact. Without doubt the actual problem is vastly more complicated than the present discussion would indicate.
