Learning to Teach

This collection consists of memorabilia regarding Verle McFarland Shanks. During the summer of 1926 she attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. In 1927 she attended the ISTC extension summer school in Albia, Iowa, and in 1928 she attended the ISTC extension summer school in Chariton, Iowa. Verle taught school at several southern Iowa schools until 1933. The collection includes a diary with entries from 1926-1928, photographs from her time at the ISTC, and miscellaneous documents from her later years.
