Abstract
The North Carolina Northwest Technical Assistance Center has issued a warning against using nickel-cadmium rechargeable batteries when constructing "dead circuits." The wires almost instantaneously become hot enough to burn students' fingers, melt holes in plastic or ignite magnesium.
