Abstract
Scientists frequently wish to determine whether the means of two sets of data differ significantly. A statistical tool for investigating such a question is the "Student t-distribution" so named because its originator, W. S. Gosset, published his findings under the pseudonym "Student". The problem considered in this paper will involve paired variates, that is, the case in which the observations in the first sample of data are paired naturally with those of the second.
