The Cover: The photograph on the cover shows the pattern formed by grass seeds floating on an insulating liquid in which two oppositely charged rods have been immersed. The configuration reveals the directions of the electrical forces which act upon charged bodies in the region of the rods. This situation represents an analogue to the more familiar demonstration employing iron filings to reveal the "field" surrounding a magnet. Both provide means for assisting the student in understanding the difficult and often misunderstood concept of force "fields."
