Description

Prairie School is a late 19th-and early 20th-century architectural style, most common in the Midwestern United States. The Prairie School was an attempt at developing an indigenous North American style of architecture in sympathy with the ideas and design aesthetics of the Arts and Crafts Movement. All photographs in this collection were taken by Carl Thurman, a biology professor at the University of Northern Iowa. The photographs are arranged by state and then by a local inventory number.
