Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore dimensions of face-concerns of an informal mediator in the intercultural setting. Ting-Toomey and her colleagues' definition and dimensions of face-concerns are used as a framework to create a scale for face-concerns of a mediator who is to handle an intercultural conflict episode. Data were collected from 207 participants from the U.S., China, Taiwan, and South Korea. The Principle Component Analysis was conducted to discover the dimensions of face-concerns. The results both support and challenge current theoretical frameworks for face-concerns. Practical and methodological implications are discussed.
