Abstract
Objective: To give students the opportunity to explore the interpersonal messages reflected in music popular in a particular time period. This activity is based on Dr. Georgia Swanson's concept of investigating interpersonal messages reflected in song lyrics. Unlike Dr. Swanson's assignment, this activity is set up as an oral dyadic presentation. Early in the semester, students are paired (either by drawing or by choice) and are asked to consider a particular time period for investigation: 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, or 1980s. Six students (three dyads) sign up for each time period and begin researching songs related to that specific period. ·Ultimately, each student will choose two songs to analyze and evaluate.
