Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to provide an informal discussion of the extracurricular debate program for eighth and ninth graders at Central Junior High in Iowa City. Currently, no debate elective is offered at Central, and the entire program is limited to after school and weekends. One primary goal would be for an elective to be offered based on the strengths of the extracurricular program. Most certainly, this paper is not intended as any kind of model plan for a coach to follow. Indeed, one of the strengths of debate throughout the state is the wide variety of different philosophies represented by a group of unique people.
