Abstract

Technology is a term that evokes enthusiasm and excitement in some educators and apprehension and anxiety in others. For districts where the forward momentum propelled by advancements in technology rapidly accelerates, teachers who are uncomfortable with technology can find themselves struggling to keep up with the computer skills of their students. If our goal as educators is to ensure that students are prepared to be productive citizens in society, then we must commit to integrating technology in every discipline across the curriculum.

To reach this goal, educators must possess the skills necessary to fully utilize the technology available. The development, maintenance, and enhancement of these skills requires that teachers are (a) trained both during pre-service and inservice, (b) allowed time to improve their skills and modify curricula to integrate technology, and (c) encouraged to take initiative in seeking innovative classroom technological applications.
