Abstract

Perhaps the greatest task facing educators today is trying to determine what the world will be like when this year's kindergarten students graduate from high school. Educators must respond to both a challenge and a dilemma. We must offer programs in our schools that prepare students to be literate members of an information-based society and provide them with the tools necessary to obtain and keep a job in such a society. For many students, accessing, manipulating, and using information and technology will be their job. The tools they will use are now unknown. Yet, schools must prepare these students for this uncertain future.
