Abstract
With a smile on every single County Supervisors' face, the vote was unanimous to give Cedar Net $30,000 as a contribution from the seven Black Hawk County libraries. Cedar Net is the Cedar Valley area community computing network presently being formed in Northeast Iowa. While it was clear that no one really knew exactly how this network would evolve, or, more importantly, how it would impact the lives of county residents, the atmosphere was electrified with excitement from just considering the possibilities of a functioning local community computing network, often called a free-net.
