Abstract
Improving accountability to our public and, more importantly, to our students means taking risks and moving out of our comfort zones. Committees: have composed mission statements to promote higher levels of thinking skills: and the development of lifelong learners. Will the district's goals and objectives be used effectively to study the challenges facing student assessment in the 1990s? Then will the district improve their accountability of accurately reporting the data of student assessment to the public?
This paper will present some viewpoints of a curriculum coordinator for 5 Iowa school districts which include educators, students, and parents for 11 school buildings. The coordinator has had first hand experience with these issues as the parent of a 15-yearold, a superintendent, an elementary principal, a secondary principal, and a teacher.
