Abstract
The topic of this conference, "Challenges Facing Student Assessment in the '90s," highlights one of the most interesting areas of education today. The continuing discussion and dialogue at the local, state, and national levels on the assessment of student achievement has generated many questions.
The papers in this section address the use of technology in the overall transformation of American education. Participants explored many facets of student assessment, emphasizing on the use of technology in assessment, monitoring, and reporting. Questions also developed on the implications of total learning management systems for classrooms and school districts in reporting student achievement. Participants stressed that technology is certainly not the panacea for assessment but is certainly enhancing the process of finding meaningful ways to show student growth and achievement. These papers offer diverse insights into the problems and questions which must be addressed if progress is to be made in this area.
