Abstract
It is clear that in the environment of the 1990s schools we'll increasingly need the community's support if they are to carry out the mission that we have traditionally given to education: the creation of a national ethos from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. And, as you will recognize, the community expects schools not only to educate this very diverse population, but to meet their complex social and emotional needs. Moreover, the concept of lifelong education is placing new demands on our schools.
