Abstract
Can we ensure long-term communication and information flow within and between the board of education and superintendent of schools?
The single most important factor that will determine long-term board/superintendent relations of leadership among these two entities. The future of board/superintendent relations will be America's educational system's ability to identify, attract, train, and retain effective leaders, both as school board members and as superintendents.
In the 21st century, three factors will be crucial to the leadership abilities of board members and superintendents. These characteristics include the ability for American schools to identify, attract, and train effective leaders in both roles and to work toward a combined effort of continuous, consistent communication between boards and superintendents.
