Abstract

Good communication between the superintendent of schools and his/her board of education has always been needed. Now, however, with the continuing push for "transformation," the need to have ongoing and honest communications is even greater. To ensure long-term effective communications between a board of education and the superintendent of schools, a trusting relationship and a clear and unified focus must be developed.

"Trust is unquestionable dependability" (Frase & Hetzel, 1990, p. 3). No lasting or real communication will occur without trust. The superintendent is responsible for developing this trust between the superintendent and the board. Below are some means for establishing this trust (Rothberg, 1984).
