Abstract
Once upon a time there was a school, a small school to be sure, that wandered aimlessly through the forests and cities of every educational idea. It would decide, rather randomly, that this idea sounded good, that one might be interesting, they would enjoy teaching that, a that the building would work well for this. It was a pleasant little school. Everyone was happy. The board of directors was happy. The superintendent was happy. The teachers were happy. The students were satisfied. Average was wonderful.
One day the happiness was shattered by cutbacks in state funds. There was talk of reorganization, whole-grade sharing, multicultural/non-sexist curriculum, and state mandates. The personnel in the school ran helter-skelter trying to fulfill these new demands and to tighten their collective belts. The students and the community didn't seem to mind. After all, what was a school to do under all these outside constraints? Everyone adjusted nicely.
