Abstract
An African proverb states, "It takes an entire village to educate a child."
More than ever, our United States education system has been criticized unfavorably when compared with other industrial countries. More than ever, we envision an educational system that enables all students to be successful participants in families, in communities, and especially in global economies. To fulfill that vision, America 2000 was formulated with six remarkable National Education Goals.
By the year 2000 all children in America will start school ready to learn. This first National Education Goal is truly considered the most crucial step leading to sure success of the other goals. James Comer, a Yale psychiatrist, concluded from his studies that children learn best from people to whom they bond. Therefore, our first and foremost vision is that every parent from the , dilapidated intercity to the affluent suburb will be a child's first teacher who devotes his/her time and efforts to helping his/her preschool youngsters learn and grow physically, intellectually, and morally. Nowadays, many single or young parents lack the knowledge, education, or resources to properly feed and care for their children. We envision sound programs that teach parents parenting skills as well as ways to enrich their child's learning environment. Also, access must be created to the training and support parents may need.
