Abstract
Mutual understanding, trust: such commonplace terms, yet often they depict a relationship so fragile it can be destroyed by a word or, worse yet, never exist among a small group of people who not only handle millions of taxpayers' dollars, but, more importantly, are responsible for the education of the district's children. It is a frightening prospect!
One highly respected Iowa superintendent, Dr. Stephen H. Williams, identified trust between the superintendent and the board as the key, the one dimension that makes everything else work, and-I might add-without which nothing works.
