Abstract

The purpose of this review was to examine the increase in childhood obesity and current existing programs that seem to be successful in combating this health epidemic. This review will induce descriptions of children's behavioral settings such as their home, school, and community; nutritional and beverage intake; obesity risk factors involving children; possible genetic influence; the influence of physical activity intervention programs; and the White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity. Due to the rapid increase of childhood obesity, preventative measures are considered to improve the health of children as a nation.
