Abstract
In current high-stakes testing and accountability era in the US, school curriculum heavily emphasizes standardized literacy instruction (Wright 2019). Teaching is a cultural practice; students are cultural beings; cultural literacies matter (Souto-Manning et al. 2018). This chapter addresses the relationships between language, power, and social practice colliding in the development of classroom literacy pedagogies with young Latiné students’ diverse literacy competencies.
