Abstract
The adoption of discovery layers as the default search interface for patrons can have a marked impact on the use of individual databases. This article compares more than five years of COUNTER-compliant use data for the music databases RILM and Music Periodicals Database (formerly IIMP). The data demonstrate the importance of updates to the COUNTER Code of Practice as library technologies change and the impact that discovery layers have on information access and retrieval.
