Abstract
This chapter argues that the ISO framework for sustainable cities, which is meant to apply to all cities on the planet, does not work for the specific conditions of the Arctic. The ISO’s main failure is that it is does not take into account the concept of fate control and, particularly, the contribution of the Indigenous communities, which make up a prominent part of Arctic cities and define the context in which these cities exist.
